“Pet Couture” is now a real (and thriving) product category

Date December 19, 2007

angus-wha.jpg We’ve all seen the pix of the crazy stars toting their animals around in fancy “doggie bags,” and heard about people who get air conditioned houses for their dogs, or feed them steak or get them $200 worth of gifts a week (yeah, saw that on the Dog Whisperer. Dogs names were Gucci and Prada, but Prada - or maybe it was Gucci - died so the other one got mega-gifts each week to make up for the heartbreak).

Anyway, it seems Pet Couture is not just for rich crazies anymore. I kinda knew this already, but I was in Target the other day and basically freaked out when I got to the pet section. There was a whole fashion display, with ruffley dresses , athletic shirts and hoodies, and even Woolrich button down shirts, all hanging on hangers…I’m surprised there wasn’t a dressing room.

Here is a sampling of nifty (or just weird) gifts you can get to glam out your pet.

My dog Plop is 80lbs and has no legs. Can you sell me the apparatus that holds the dog to your hip? This is incredible. Now I won’t have to drag Plop around on that old skateboard with the wobbly wheel. Sometimes I push her around in a shopping cart that I made to look like a racing car.

Also, she is blind and her eyes are funny looking, Do you sell contact lenses for dogs. I want her to look more natural.

The last post was very funny, ha ha. I think he was trying to be funny, he wasn’t. However, I thought your blog was very cute. My fellow feline friends and I have dressed our cats in wigs before for a cat fashion show and it was great fun. As a cat lover I love finding out about new and funky ideas that may bring cat lovers such as myself together. Yes I know I’m a bit freaky, but it’s all in good fun.

I would also like to say, “GREAT JOB”, I heard about this blog from a fellow animal lover who found this site by accident. She informed me that in her mind, the creators of this blog were true animal lovers. I enjoy all of the authors insights.
