Holy Star Wars! This Pop-up is AWESOME!
February 8, 2008
I went out to dinner with my friend Katrina last night and I was mentioning my surprise that Star Wars is able to live on from generation to generation, and how my 6 year old nephew freaks over it, knows all the characters through the whole series, plays role-playing games at recess, etc. I thought I’d get him something Star Wars for his looming birthday, but didn’t know what, as he has a lot of Star Wars paraphenalia already. That’s when Katrina gave me the best idea ever: “Star Wars: A Pop-Up Guide to the Galaxy.”

The artistry of the pop-ups was created by Matthew Reinhart, a well known “paper engineer” in the pop-up world. All of the pop-ups are incredibly intricate, and there are little open-me panels everywhere. The last page even has Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker pop up in separate panels, and each of their light sabers actually light up!!!
This book is so great I almost can’t stand to open it. My nephew will be lucky if I actually give it up… I’m not recommending one book store over another, but B&N has some great pics to review online… And here’s a review from the NY Times.

I am so glad I came across your site (following entrecard). My brother is a HUGE Star Wars fan and this is the perfect birthday gift. Too cool!
